If you are planning to have cremation services in Franklin, IN you may be thinking about the different types. Here are some that you should keep in mind and remember when you are choosing which one will be right for your loved one.

What Is Green Cremation?

As an alternative to traditional cremation and casket burial, green cremation is also called 'bio-cremation', 'Aqua-Cremation', or even resomation. In this process, the deceased's body is reduced to its essential element of bone ash by using water and potassium hydroxide.

What is the Difference Between Bio-Cremation and Traditional Cremation?

Traditional Cremation

Through the application of intense heat and flame, traditional cremation reduces the remains (not ashes) to bone fragments within hours of the deceased's death.

Each cremation is conducted individually

Before the deceased is transferred to the crematorium, the funeral director will remove any pacemakers the deceased had.

In the cremation chamber, cremation begins once the cremation container is lowered

Experiencing intense heat between 1400°F and 1800°F

Bone fragments (calcium compounds) and any non-combustible materials (like jewelry, dental gold, prosthetics, etc.) cannot be consumed because the temperature is too low.

Cremations usually take between 12 and 3 hours to complete

In the cremation chamber, the cremated remains are swept or raked after cooling

Following the separation of the bone fragments, the fragments are further processed to reduce their size into uniform particles (also called cremated remains or ashes).

Crematoriums issue temporary urns or select an urn for the family to use for the cremated remains.

Bio-Cremation

Water and alkali are used to quickly oxidize the remains of the deceased, reducing them to bone fragments within hours. In a stainless steel cremation chamber, the deceased is placed under pressure. A temperature of 302°F is reached after adding water (95%) and alkali (5%)

Cremation begins and ends with the gentle circulation of water, alkali, heat, and pressure over the body A sterile solution is recycled to the earth after the body is reduced to bone fragments

As soon as the cremated remains are placed in the urn, the family selects the urn or a temporary urn is chosen by the family.

The End Result of Bio-Cremation

The end result is the same whether the deceased is buried, cremated with flames, or bio-cremated. A transition takes time and is supported by stimuli. The only difference is the amount of time it takes. It’s up to you and your family to decide which type of cremation is the best option for you.
