Melissa Melvin
Assistant Manager & Licensed Funeral Director

Melissa grew up in a small Indiana town, wanting to be the next Matlock. After graduating from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, she decided that was not the path she wanted anymore and looked toward obtaining her Mortuary Science degree. Melissa graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in 2011, becoming a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 2012. She felt lucky because she was able to stay with Indiana Funeral Care during that journey, first as a student, then an intern, to a funeral director, and currently as the Assistant Manager.

Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband, Aaron, and 2 sons, Ean and Jackson. This typically involves football games, other school activities, and other shenanigans that the boys talk them into. She also enjoys travelling the world and trying the different foods and wines.

Taylor grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana. She always knew that she wanted a career where helping others was the main objective. She wasn’t sure where that would lead her, until she had a job shadow at a local funeral home during college. It was during that opportunity that she realized that being a funeral director was what she wanted to do.

She graduated from the Mortuary Science Program at Ivy Tech Community College in 2020 and received her Funeral Director License in 2021.

She now lives on the Southside with her husband and 2 dogs. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Haley Walters
Licensed Funeral Director

Haley was raised in Greenfield, IN. She thought about going to school to be a lab technician, like her mother, but when she shadowed a day with a lab technician it was one of the most boring days of her life. She did not have a problem telling this to her mother either. Haley then decided to shadow a funeral director. She appreciated how nice everyone was and loved how she was able to help someone in their time of need.

Haley graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate in Funeral Since and Psychology in 2010. She received her Funeral Directors license in 2012. Haley has worked in the funeral industry since 2011. She had the privilege of being hired on at Indiana Funeral Care in 2019.

Haley lives in the Oaklandon area. In her free time, she likes to crochet (she always has a project ready to go on her desk), spin-on her spinning wheel (she has 5 spinning wheels), read, spend time with her cats, go to taekwondo (has a 2nd dan black belt), take vacations with her family, and spend time with her family.

Megan grew up in Elwood Indiana. After spending the first half of her senior year in Australia as an exchange student and then graduating she attended Vincennes University to become a Nanny. After her grandfather had a stroke and heart attack she left school to help care for him and then started working as a CNA, which she did for the next 14 years.  Once her boys, Alex and Harrison, were in Pre-school she knew that she needed to be working in a different field but not knowing exactly what she wanted to do, she started taking general pre-recs at Ivy Tech.   A year later she found out about their Mortuary Science program and knew that was the direction she would behead.

Nannette Blake
Aftercare/Family Advisor

Nannette started out working in the travel/leisure industry and worked for one of the largest timeshare exchange companies until she was downsized out of my job following 9/11. Then, 4 months later her husband died of a heart attack. While Nannette took some time off to get herself together and decide what her next career would be, she sat down and put her preneed arrangements in place. While doing so the advisor asked her if she had gone back to work yet. She told him no and that she was looking for a job as they spoke, he asked for one of her resumes and took it back to the office with him. Nannette was called for an information meeting and that turned into an interview and she was hired. She has been working in the funeral industry now for 18 years.

Nannette’s goal is to take good care of the families that are entrusted into our care during their time of need and help them prepare in such a way that their families are not caught off guard in the future. She loves what she does!
