Sam Houston Campbell passed away on Saturday June 10, 2017 at Community North Hospital, Indianapolis Indiana at the age 77. His passing occurred just after falling asleep and at peace.
He was born in Nashville Tennessee on January 18, 1940. He graduated with Associates Degree in General Studies.
Sam joined the United States Air Force in May 1957 and served several years, after serving honorably he ventured in other avenues and then finally enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seabee in February 1970 and officially retired June 1987 with a total of 23 years of service.
Sam was married to Rita Sue Campbell (Jones) on March 9, 1974 and married for 44 years. Within that marriage they had many adventures and traveled to many new places around the world. They truly lived an enriched life.
Sam worked for Naval Avionics in Indianapolis for 10 years shortly after retiring from the Navy. After Naval Avionics he then started towards retiring and spending more time with the family. He enjoyed reading; he especially enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time with his children. He really enjoyed building and fixing things, which was in his blood. As the Motto of a Seabee “We Build” “We Fight” “Can Do” was entrenched in his soul ,he spent his life in the service of others, ensuring his family and country was safe and at peace then yesterday .
Sam is survived by his three children, Scott, Doug, Eric Campbell and his wife Rita Sue Campbell; 6 grandchildren Jayden, Jace, Jaylee, Catherine, Joey, Rachael. He is also survived by his three sisters, Peggy, Linda Fey, and Barbara Jean.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Indiana Funeral Care; Harry W. Moore Chapel at 3 pm, with visitation from 1-3.
