Zaro Poe, 71, died on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born to Zaro E. Poe and Ruth (Payne) Poe on January 31, 1950, in Rock Island, Illinois. He was the third child and first son of six children born to Zaro E. and Ruth Poe.
Zaro graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968, and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where an uncle resided. Zaro worked at Link-Belt Company for four years, and then went to work at St. Vincent Hospital, now Ascension St. Vincent, for 37 years, retiring in March 2020.
Zaro was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vera Poe, and two brothers, Delmer Poe and Darrell Poe.
Surviving are two sisters, Sharon T. (Poe) Penn, Indianapolis, and VonCille (Bob) Colvin, Rock Island, Illinois. Also surviving are eight nephews and three nieces. Although Zaro had no biological children of his own, surviving as well is Bryce Wheat, who was like a son to Zaro. Also left to morn his death is a friend/sister. Jackie Journey, Indianapolis, Indiana, who assisted his sister Sharon in accompanying Zaro to his doctor and hospital appointments. Also surviving are Isaac Daniel, Jr. and Charles Daniel, Indianapolis, Indiana, who were like brothers to Zaro.
Due to COVID restrictions and Zaro’s wishes, there will be no visitation services. Cremation will be accorded.
