Ying Zhang, 40, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Compassus Hospice Center with her family by her side.

Ying was born Sep 2, 1983 in Tianjin, China. Ying loved the city of Tianjin where she grew up, especially the cultural heritage and delicious food there.

In 2006, Ying graduated from Tianjin University with a degree in chemistry. While attending Tianjin University, Ying met her future husband, Wen Zhang, and they got married on Aug 7, 2009. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends, and they have one blessed daughter: Carrie.

Ying earned her doctorate from Georgia State University in 2013. She spent eight years as a research scientist at the University of Massachusetts, where her colleagues appreciated her positive attitude and energy. In 2021, Ying relocated to Indiana and briefly worked at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Ying was an avid reader of historic literature, and she had a passion for baking in the kitchen. Other hobbies included traveling and spending time with her family. Ying especially will be remembered for her optimistic and humorous personality, along with her enthusiasm for others, which would strengthen everyone she met.

Ying is survived by her parents, Yuwen Zhang and Shuangcui Chen, her husband, Wen Zhang, and her daughter, Carrie Zhang. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 10 am - 12 pm, with a funeral service at 12 pm at Indiana Funeral Care.
