Winifred, “Winnie”, Sue Hancock, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away March 10, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was under the care of IU Health Hospice.
Winnie married Tom E. Hancock on February 14, 1977 in St. Petersburg, Florida. They lived in Florida until moving back to Indiana in 2016. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2019.
She was born January 21, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Mary and Robert Jones.
Winnie is survived by her children: Laura (Robert) Krall of Carmel, In, William (Betsy) Goers of Indianapolis, In, James (Barbara) Goers of Powder Springs, Ga. Her stepchildren, John (Tina) Hancock and Sherri Dale of Indianapolis, In. Her brother, Philip Jones of Pembroke Pines, Fl, and sister, Mary Buckle of Green Valley, Arizona. She is proceeded in death by her brother, Robert Jones of Alaska and sister Hope Jones of California.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her 5 grandchildren: Alexandra Evans, Andrew Evans, Emma Goers, Jacob Goers, and Samuel Goers. She was lovingly called Memaw: A silly grandmother who always wanted to be a Shepherdess. Turns out her flock was her family, and she was an amazing caretaker!
Winnie was a retired medical surgical nurse of 42 years. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Findley, Ohio and loved the wide-open spaces, rolling hills and cornfields of the Midwest.
Her family would like to thank IU Hospice and Maple Park Village for their loving care and services available to the community.
As per her wishes, Winnie’s family will have a private remembrance for her.
