Surrounded by family, William Lee Jourdan, 75, of Noblesville, IN, died peacefully at home on Monday, January 24, 2022, from cancer. Born in Detroit, MI, on October 14, 1946, to Dorothea G. (DeClaire) Jourdan and Cecil J. Jourdan, he enjoyed his childhood with older sister Claire E. (Jourdan) Green in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI.
At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and saw much of the world on the USS Valcour AVP 55 until June 1967. After various civilian jobs, Bill spent 15 years in the Detroit Police Department and another 15 years in the Noblesville Police Department. He had several occupations after retiring from law enforcement, making friends wherever he went.
A history buff, Bill enjoyed Civil War reenacting, traveling, antiquing, and fishing. He was active in the church and devout in his faith, visiting people in prison and volunteering with Emmaus, Gideons International, and Last Bell Ministries in Ukraine. He organized the first of many USS Valcour reunions and was a proud member of the National Color Guard and Navy Club.
Anyone who knew Bill was touched by his tender heartedness and honesty. He loved to tell stories and had a memory like an elephant and an eye for details. Bill was generous and thoughtful, a protector of animals, trees, and many who needed a friend. In his retirement, he especially liked to read, nap, woodwork, and take walks. Bill was unendingly proud and supportive of his family, always trying to make them smile. He will forever be in our hearts and missed very much.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothea, sister, Claire, grandma, Martha DeClaire, and many other family members, friends, and pets.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (Tucker) Jourdan, brothers-in-law Larry Green of FL and Chet Tucker (Susan) of MD, sisters-in-law Sheila Shields (Bob) of MI and Sheri Clark (Carl) of MI, sons Jeff Jourdan (Charlene) of MI and Joe Jourdan (Heaven) of OK, daughters Jennifer Jourdan (Nathan) of PA and Christine Jourdan (Lucio) of IN, niece Shannon Bloomquist (Sam) of IN, grandsons Dakota Jourdan (Margaret) of IN and Josiah Jourdan of OK, granddaughters Cheyenne Jourdan (Cody) of VT, Spacely Finister of IN, Hattie Bloomquist of IN, and great grandchildren Lily, Connor, Colton, Cooper, Calvin, and Charlotte. Bill leaves additional beloved family members, friends, and his sweet cat Frankie, who will miss him dearly.
An in-person and live stream service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 28, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 1207 Conner St., Noblesville, 46060. Masks are required.
