William “Bill” Ellerman, age 88, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, passion, and cherished memories.
Born with an innate appreciation for craftsmanship, Bill developed a lifelong love of cars, particularly Corvettes, which he admired for their beauty and performance. His enthusiasm extended beyond automobiles, as he was also an expert in buying and selling tractors and farm equipment. Through this passion, Bill fostered connections in the community and shared his wealth of knowledge with others.
Bill’s life took a meaningful turn when he met the love of his life, Ellen, at the stables where they boarded their horses. Their shared passion for equestrian pursuits built the foundation for a 55-year marriage filled with love and adventure. An accomplished rider, Bill competed in Reining competitions at horse shows across the Midwest, showcasing his dedication and skill.
Professionally, Bill dedicated 28 years of his career to FMC, where he worked in middle management and left a lasting impact. Following his retirement from FMC, he found fulfillment with the Greencastle School Corporation, where he worked for a total of 23 years—first as a mechanic and later as a bus driver. He took particular joy in driving a school bus, cherishing the daily interactions with the children he transported and leaving a positive impression on countless students and families.
Bill’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is remembered for his passions, hard work, and his unwavering love for family and friends. His spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen K. Ellerman, and their children: his oldest son, Brian J. Ellerman; his youngest son, Michael I. Ellerman, and his wife Amanda; and Mike’s two sons, Matthew, and Luke. He is also survived by his three daughters: Kathy Boyne and her husband Jim, along with their daughters Shawn Moore and LeeAnn Johnson; Karen Ellerman and her sons Rick Miller and Travis Lee; and Kristy Ellerman and her daughters Lisa Ellerman and Amanda Matthews. Bill’s legacy extends to his 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that embodies the compassion and dedication Bill showed throughout his life. Contributions honor his memory by supporting children facing serious health challenges and ensuring they receive the care and hope they deserve.
