William Richard Bracken, a proud veteran of the United States Army who served 2 years from 1969-1971 as a Duster in Vietnam, passed away on Wednesday, May 22nd from a drowning accident off his fishing boat in Indianapolis, Indiana.
While serving in the Army, he earned the rank of a Spec 4 as a Duster and was honorably discharged and earned the Medal of Honor. He was born on March 10, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana. William graduated from North Central High School.
William worked for Broady-Campbell Inc. for 28 years as a union masons’ laborer. He enjoyed his time fishing, golfing, and attending Indianapolis Colt’s football games. He was a member of The American Legion Post 34 in Indianapolis, where he enjoyed hanging out with his Veteran friends.
He is survived by his sister, Terri (Scott) Moore of North Carolina, and his son, Craig Lucas Bracken of Indianapolis, Indiana.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis.
There will be a Celebration of Life Dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Robert E. Kennington American Legion Post 34, 2210 E. 54th Street, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to First Tee-Indiana, a (501©3) organization who empowers kids and teens through golf. Donations can be mailed to First Tee-Indiana, 9795 Crosspointe Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46226.
