Walter L. Hill, 88, of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Walt was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 5, 1933 to parents Charles and Margaret (Hoffman) Hill.
Walt graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1952. He was a Korean War Veteran. Walt was past President of the Scecina Memorial High School Booster Club and coached Little League baseball in Irvington for many years and was involved with Kiwanis International Organization. He was an “old-school” type of sales professional, still working into his early 80’s because he would not leave his customers without the kind of service they deserved. Walt loved to do crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family.
Walt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty (Nester) Hill. He is survived and dearly missed by his son David (Teresa) Hill and daughter Diane (Billy) Evans. He will also be missed by six (6) grandchildren: Monica (Kevin) Suhre, Eric (Morgan) Hill, Kelly Hill, Amy Hill, Kaleb Gibson and Aubrey Gibson and 5 step-grandchildren: Trina Evans, Katie Neu, Lyndsey (Michael) Kreig, Haley (Tony) Ward and Garrett Evans. Walt also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren: Caroline, Samantha, Ryan, Gregory, Alanna, Addysen, Kinlee, Nolan, Londyn, Lennox and Joel. Walt also is survived by his dear nieces and nephews from many parts of southern Indiana, the western parts of the United States and California.
A gathering to celebrate Walt’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm with a memorial service immediately following at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to either the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
