LIFE REFLECTIONS

Walter Clay Pinkins was the youngest of five children born to the union of L.C. “Bill” and Viola (Bobo) Pinkins on August 19, 1935, in Batesville, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Terry, Lawrence, Nellie (Pinkins) Wilson, and twin sister, Jewel (Pinkins) Draper. Walter attended school at Batesville High school but completed his high school education at Crispus Attucks high school in Indianapolis, IN.

Walter met “the love of his life” Jewel Perry when they were both in their early teens. They eventually married on April 4, 1955 at 18 years of age. In a search for a better life they migrated north and ended up in Indianapolis, IN, where they raised their six children, Walter, Jr., Ronald, Maxine, Anita (Bullock), Olson and Debra Pinkins.

Walter was known to be a true hard working “handy” man. He had great work ethics and kept his vow to Jewel that he would always be the “provider for his family”; she never had to work outside the home. Although he officially retired from Peerless Pump after 30 years of service as a machinist, he was also known for working on cars, painting and repairing houses. Surprising to most, Walter loved writing poetry. He had a great memory and was good with numbers.

After years of faithful prayers by his wife, Walter accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He faithfully served at Greater Northwest Baptist Church where he was a member for more than 20 years. He loved his church and enjoyed hearing God’s word.

Walter was a quiet spirited man who was always available to lend a hand, a dollar, a kind word and a smile. He will be dearly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Jewel; his sons Walter Jr., Ronald (Diane), Olson (Malaina); daughters Maxine, Anita (Bullock), and Debra; grandchildren LaShandra Hooten, Rita (Christopher) Green, Brian (Julie) Pinkins, Cherrelle (Christopher) Johnson, DeNae Pinkins, Sinclair Bullock, Christopher Pinkins, Dominique Pinkins, Charissa Pinkins, Dyamond Pinkins, Deanna Greer, Drey Greer and Daelin Greer; great grandchildren Michele Pinkins, Jeremiah Patton, Elijah Patton, Isaiah Patton, Josiah Green, Malysha Mason, Michael D. Mason, Brooklyn Pinkins; great great grandchildren Chris Lee Johnson, Jr., Kyrie John, Cryshelle Johnson, Christopher Pinkins, Jr., Malaysia Hollins.
