Virgil E. Yehnert, 91, was called home to his Savior on March 26, 2020. He is survived by his wife Glenna F. Yehnert, and by 4 children Carl Yehnert (Pittsburgh, PA), Carol Cornelius (Greenwood, IN), Cindy Droge (Surry, VA) and Curt Yehnert (Heather) (Salem, OR), and by 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Virgil graduated from Miami University (Ohio) in 1953 and earned a Masters Degree in Public School Administration from Akron University. Virgil was a public school teacher in Ohio for 28 years, and a minister of the gospel with Baptist Mid-Missions, serving in a short-term capacity in Fortaleza, Brazil for two years, and as the pastor of Good News Baptist Church in Katy, Texas for 24 years. Virgil and Glenna were married for 69 years, and were characterized by a deep and abiding love for each other. They both graduated from Grace Theological Seminary in 1987, and all of their ministry and life experiences were shared implicitly. Virgil was a cross country runner at Miami University, and continued running for most of his life. In 1970 he finished 25th (out of 1000 runners) at the Boston Marathon in 2:28:27 at age 41. He unofficially held the US record for best marathon time by a Masters runner until 1976. Virgil and Glenna were lifelong learners, and read prodigiously in addition to their teaching and ministry activities. They read through the Bible together at least 43 times. They were loving and devoted parents and had great influence everywhere they served.
