On August 3, 2024, Vicki Ann Boyer died at Wellbrooke Assisted Living with Heart to Heart Hospice care in Westfield Indiana of complications of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS), She was 74 years of age.
Vicki is survived by her best friend, loving and always supportive husband of 55 years, Michael R Boyer; their children,Heather D Bracy (Patrick) of Westfield, IN., Christopher M Boyer (Michelle) of Hawthorn Woods, IL.; their grandchildren, Harrison Bracy, Laura Bracy, Nicole Moreno, Melanie Boyer, Stephanie Boyer, Clark Boyer, and Lincoln Boyer; her sister Kathie S Curtiss of Biggsville, IL., and numerous nieces and nephews. Vicki was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Ralph and Vernia Bell (Stukey) and maternal grandparents, Clint and Laura Bell (Nickel), her parents, Norman and Helen Bell, and sister, Linda Merrifield (Bell).
Vicki was born on August 8, 1949 in Burlington, lowa to Norman and Helen Bell. She attended Oquawka grade school, and graduated from Union High School in 1967. There was a spousal disagreement on how Vicki and Michael met in high school. Vicki said it was at a meeting in town, Michael said it was watching Vicki put library books on a high shelf at school. Either way, Vicki married Michael R Boyer on August 11, 1968 at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church. She was employed by linois Department of Mental Health in Champaign, IL. supporting Michael as he finished college. Their first born, Heather was born in Urbana, IL. Their second child, Christopher was born in Park Ridge IL. while Michael worked for Kraft Foods Research. They then farmed in Henderson County Illinois for almost 30 years, operating Boyer's Apiary. Vicki and Michael realized the way to take away the stings of farming and of the honey bees was through education. Vicki attended Western llinois University where she graduated in 1990. She received a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and a Specialist degree in School Psychology. Vicki was initiated into both the National Honor Society of Psychology (Psi Chi) and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She was then employed by Knox-Warren Special ED Coop for 8 years She completed the rigorous requirements to become a National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP). Vicki was then employed by Clinton-Franklin Special Education Coop and Kaskaskia Special Education Coop before moving to Indiana for Michael's employment with Dow Agri Science. Vicki was employed for 14 years with Boone-Clinton-North West Hendricks Joint Services before retiring. Vicki and her colleague and friend, Nancy Beede jointly received an award from their employer as support staff of the year in 2016
In addition to her long career as a school psychologist, Vicki's interests included genealogy reading, basket weaving and traveling, she particularly loved the five trips they took to Ireland and Scotland.
While Vicki's professional career was very gratifying, she was proudest of her 55 year marriage to Michael and the family they created. She was forever inspired by the adults their children have become, and of the families they both have.
Cremation rites have been accorded, with private graveside services to be held in Biggsville, Illinois at a later date. Ashes will also be scattered at the Kildalton Celtic Cross on the isle of islay, Scotland.
