Verne R. Chandler, son of Walter and Florence (Denny) Chandler, passed away peacefully March 19, 2021 with the support of his family. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Liechty Frink Chandler; children, David Chandler (Debra), Beth Ann Janeczko (Paul), Jeanmarie Gartner, Brian Chandler, and stepson, Ted Frink (Kenna). Also surviving him are grandchildren, Lindsay Grant (Mike), Lora Halterman (Aaron), Matthew Chandler, Daniel Chandler (Frances), Kevin Chandler, and step-grandchildren, Kristin Orn (Charlie), Kyle Bundy (Becca) Jared, Tyler, and Austin Frink (Tova); and 7 great grandchildren.
Verne attended Manual High School, Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis), and Butler University. Verne was an outstanding student and an excellent athlete, playing football in high school and college. He received the Walter Brenneman sportsmanship medal for leadership, cooperation, and academic record his senior year at ICC. Upon graduation he taught 6th grade at Edgewood Grade School for 21 years and served as Principal of Homecroft Elementary School in Perry Township for 17 years. They enjoyed 32 years of beautiful summers at Sweetwater Lake in Brown County with family and friends.
Upon retirement he and Joyce spent winters in Colorado skiing until he was 80 years old. He and Joyce have been ardent supporters of their great-grandchildren athletes and followed the Center Grove High School Softball Team for over 20 years. In Heaven he joins family and grandson, Chris Chandler and stepson, Doug Frink (Bonnie).
Viewing will take place at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 East Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. A private service will follow the viewing at 5:00 pm.
