Toomas Raag, 85, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly, May 8, 2024. How joyful the reunion with his mother, Alma, father Aleksander and sister Leili must be!
Tom was born in Tallin, Estonia. As just ayoung boy, the family fled their home as war was raging around them. For the next 7 years, he lived in various Displaced Persons Camps in Germany. In the early 1950s, when Tom was about 9 years old, the family found sponsorship to come to America. He became a citizen after passing the exam on June 8, 1960.
Tom graduated from Arsenal. Technical High School in 1958. Tom loved playing basketball and excelled at it! He regretted later in life, that he declined a full scholarship to a college in South Carolina, choosing instead to attend Indiana University, Indianapolis campus. Tom joined the U.S. Army in 1962, serving 3 years active duty, including 13 months in Korea. While there he played basketball on the All-Star Army Basketball team. He also married his high school sweetheart Kay, in 1962 before leaving for Korea. Toomas had a long career as a certified dental technician. He was the full owner of TR Precision Dental Lab for over 30 years. He was very artistic, creating beautiful smiles for many dentists and their patients.
Tom had many things and activities that he enjoyed throughout his lifetime. He loved watching college basketball and recently the girls’ games! He enjoyed NASCAR racing. He was always proud that for several years he enjoyed owning a 1957 red Corvette. One of his favorite places to vacation was St. Augustine, FL, where he revisited fishing holes every year for over 40 years.
Toomas is survived by his loving wife, Irlene “Kay” Raag. They were married 62 years. Also surviving is his son Tom A. Raag of Fishers, his daughter Kelli S. Spence of Tucson, AZ; daughter in law Jill Raag, son in law Scott Spence -three
grandchildren Sampson Spence, Sasha Spence and Benjamin Raag.
Funeral services are being held at Indiana Funeral Care —Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis IN 46250. The gathering will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, with a celebration of life beginning at 4:00pm.
