Thomas J. Brewer, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Born on December 13, 1949, he was raised on a farm in Loogootee, Indiana, where he developed a love for hard work, family, and animals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Violet Brewer, and his brother, John Brewer.
Tom graduated from St. John’s High School in 1967 and earned an Associate’s degree in Business from Vincennes University. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army and being stationed in Worms, Germany, Tom returned home to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Indiana University.
Tom had a long and fulfilling career in Human Resources, concluding with more than 20 dedicated years at FedEx. Known for his dependability, he was honored for never missing a single day of work or being late throughout his two decades there—a reflection of his commitment and integrity.
Tom had a natural artistic talent and a passion for music, cars, and IU basketball. A 100% “animal whisperer,” he was known for his gentle nature with all creatures, large and small. He loved local sports, and his enthusiasm for his community extended to his active involvement in the Jaycees, Christ Renews His Parish, Marriage Encounter, and Tobit -- where he was a cherished friend and volunteer.
Above all, Tom loved his family with his whole heart. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha (Owen); his son, Chad (Christie); his grandchildren, Christina, Caleigh, Cole, Corey, Tessa, and Leo; and his sister-in-law, Susie Brewer. Tom’s warmth, kindness, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, October 28, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46250. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Parish, followed by a Mass celebrating Tom’s life at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project. His longtime dedication to these causes reflected his kind and compassionate nature.
