Teresa "Teri" Marie Burke

Teresa “Teri” Marie (Ruemler) Burke entered the loving arms of Jesus peacefully in her home with her family by her side on August 27, 2024. To all who knew her, she will be remembered for her steadfast and unwavering faith, extreme love for her family and friends, contagious personality, and joy-filled smile and laughter. Teri never knew a stranger. Even in a chance encounter, her gentle spirit drew others in, making them feel seen, heard, and loved.

She was born on January 25, 1959, in Muncie, IN, to Wayne Ruemler and Georgia (Roark) Ruemler. Teri attended Muncie Northside High School and went on to Ball State University, where she completed her degree as a registered nurse and met the love of her life, Brent Burke, while they were working together in a clinic. They were married on November 3, 1984. Together, they had four children and were married for 40 years.

Her greatest joys in life were raising her children with her loving husband and watching their family grow. Affectionately known as “Nana” by all her grandchildren, each new baby was a joyful blessing. Although Teri’s primary ministry was her family, she had a big heart for others.

Throughout her nursing career, Teri served patients in multiple settings, including the Methodist Neuro ICU, the Eye Surgeons of Indiana surgery center, and as a school nurse at Heritage Christian. With their medical expertise, Brent and Teri served the Lord both in Indianapolis and abroad. Teri's church community benefited from her sacrificial service as a deacon, her and Brent's commitment to teaching Sunday school, and their mentoring of young couples.

Teri is survived by her husband, Brent Burke; children Lauren (Cory) Layton, Brice (Kendyl) Burke, Eric (Elizabeth) Burke, and Brendon (Keerthana Mohankumar) Burke; mother Georgia (Roark) Ruemler; sister Tami (Michael) Green; seven energetic and loving grandchildren; and three lovely nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Ruemler.

Friends and family are welcome to gather for a public visitation on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Pennington Park Church, 13222 126th St, Fishers, IN 46037. The funeral service will follow visitation at 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow services at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN. Any memorial donations in her honor may be made to Pennington Park Church.
