Tanya Denise Wallace-White passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021. Tanya was born on January 8, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The daughter of James and Catherine Wallace, she attended DeWitt S. Morgan, School #86 through middle school and went on to graduate from Shortridge High School. Tanya also attended Howard University where she was active in a number of civil rights demonstrations and sit ins.
Tanya was creative and had an eye for detail. She worked for the Indiana State Teacher’s Association for over 15 years. Tanya was an excellent cook and loved to be surrounded by her family. She enjoyed all kinds of music; impromptu dance parties and she was an avid reader.
Tanya is survived by her mother, Catherine Wallace, sister, Robin Wong, brother, Bradford Wallace. John White III, ex-husband and life-long friend. Her children; Kimberly Brandon, Kenya Thompson, John White IV and Khara White. Her grandchildren, Justin, Geneva, and Marques Brandon, great grandchild, Lola Seals, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Wallace.
Tanya wished to have a homegoing celebration of life. Her family is planning the celebration for this summer and will reach out to family and friends in the near future.
