Sylvia Jean Blackburn passed away on January 3, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born on May 4, 1947, in Richland Center, Wisconsin. Sylvia enjoyed making music by playing both the piano and the French horn. She graduated with honors from Richland Center High School in 1965 and later moved to Indiana to attend Indiana Central College. After graduating, she taught kindergarten in the Indianapolis School District for many years. Sylvia loved to share cute and humorous stories about her students.
Sylvia is survived by her brother, Richard Blackburn (Lynn) of Menomonee Falls, WI; her sister, Lois McGarry (Craig) of Muskego, WI; her nephew Christopher McGarry (Laura); her nieces Sarah Pouzar (John) and Katherine Halleran (Neil); as well as two great-nephews, RJ and Caleb, and four great-nieces, Madelynn, Corah, Eliza, and Ingrid. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Blackburn; her stepdaughter, Angela McVicker; and her nephew, DJ Blackburn.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Richland Center, WI.
The family requests that donations in memory of Sylvia be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
