Susanne “Susie” Pearson Dobson,
65, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2022, after battling Covid for five weeks. Susie rallied in her last week, determined to beat the overwhelming complications of Covid, but when all odds were against her weakening body, she courageously decided to transition from the intensive care unit to Hospice care, where her endless days of mechanical breathing would stop. Although her earthly death was imminent, as a Christian, Susie knew her eternal life with Christ in Heaven was just beginning.
A lifelong resident of the Indianapolis area, Susie was born on December 31, 1956, the daughter of Kenneth and Sonja Pearson of Indianapolis and younger sister of Christy Pearson. She was a 1975 graduate of North Central High School, Indianapolis, and received her associate’s degree in fashion design from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. After college, Susie started a custom tailoring business, using her incredible talents to design and sew anything from business suits and coats to formal wear and custom bridal gowns. With a stylish clientele, Susie built a full-time, 20-year career. Following her tailoring career, Susie switched her focus to her excellent culinary skills to become a caterer and event planner. Her business, Simply Scrumptious Sweets, launched Susie as a cake baker and dessert maker, but she quickly transformed into providing corporate lunches and opened a restaurant of the same name in Westfield, Indiana. Susie catered large corporate events, small private parties, and beautiful Christmas dinners. Her exquisite attention to detail was her forte, turning banquet and guest tables into beautiful works of art as she made even the smallest feature special for each guest: handmade goodies as favors, gifts wrapped in boxes of lace and satin ribbons, or China teacups filled with homemade chocolates to take home. Events catered by Susie were always special occasions for her party guests. Her giving heart, generous spirit, and love of serving others were evident wherever she went. She shied away from calling herself talented, instead saying she was gifted by God. Equal to her passion for entertaining and cooking, Susie had a deep love of animals, particularly her dogs and horses. Leaving city life over 20 years ago, Susie became a “farm girl” and moved to her own horse farm outside Arcadia, Indiana. Her greatest joys were taking care of her animals, being out in the country, and working on her property. Anyone who knew Susie could acknowledge her strong work ethic, physical strength, and fierce independence in maintaining her farm life.
Susie’s funeral service will be Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Castleton Community Church, 5825 East 91st Street, Indianapolis.
Susie was blessed to have an incredible team of pulmonary critical care doctors and the most loving, caring nurses in the intensive care unit (ICU) at IU Health’s University Hospital. She was so very grateful and wanted to thank each of them for trying every medical option possible to heal her from Covid. Donations in Susie’s memory can be made to Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources, 24970 Mt. Pleasant Road, Cicero, IN 46034, where, with gentle horses, riding and horsemanship skills are offered to special needs’ families in a most loving, calming atmosphere. Please write on the memo line, “In memory of Susie Dobson.”
