Susan "Sue" Jane Scotten

Susan Jane (Jansen) Scotten, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2025. Born on July 18, 1951, in Indianapolis, IN, Sue was the cherished daughter of the late James Walter Jansen and Phyllis Jean (Miller) Jansen. Sue was the eldest of nine siblings and their only girl. Sue played a big role in her brothers’ lives, helping her parents with their care and being the apple of her father’s eye.

In 1967, at the age of sixteen, Sue met the love of her life, Dan Scotten, at a Dairy Queen during their first jobs. Their teenaged adventures together built a deep bond, and they married on July 3, 1971, and had three wonderful children together. Dan and Sue later were blessed with four grandsons, Bodie (14), Harrison (10), Bryce (6) and Tyler (2). Together they enjoyed many years watching their children and then grandchildren grow. Sue and Dan especially enjoyed their time with their grandsons and moved to Florida from 2006-2014 to be closer to them.

Sue’s dedication extended beyond her family to her work. After starting her family, Sue returned to work as a bookkeeper for St. Mattews Catholic School and later moved to work with Jesse Hair and Co. CPA firm. Sue continued to develop her career until she retired from working for Bill Murphy and Co. as an Administrative Assistant and Litigation Support Manager. Sue’s work ethic and commitment were evident to all who knew her, though she was always very modest about all of her accomplishments.

Sue will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Gigi) and friend to many, who had many joys in life. She loved gardening and was elated when one of her grandsons took an interest in gardening and baking with his Gigi. Sue looked forward to every spring when she would be able to be out in her garden tending to her plants. Sue was also a fierce protector of her family, and everyone knew she could hold her own when needed.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dan Scotten; Children, Danny (Steph) Scotten, Katie (Eric) Ford, Joe Scotten; Brothers, Jim (Gail) Jansen, John Jansen, Maury Jansen, Mark (Cathy) Jansen, Mike Jansen, Tom Jansen, Paul Jansen, Pat Jansen; In-laws, Christine and Danny Bordenet and Chris Scotten and her many nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, James Walter Jansen and Phyllis Jean Jansen, she was preceded in death by sister in-law Cindy Jansen (loving wife to Maury Jansen) and Donn Scotten (devoted husband to Chris Scotten and brother to Dan)

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. An announcement will be sent out closer to the time of the celebration.
