Sue Ann Foster of Greenwood, Indiana passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was born September 7, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Addison M. and Gladys E. Sprinkle.
Sue was a very outgoing person, rarely meeting a stranger. Family and friends commented often that Sue had just made a new “Best Friend” after speaking with someone who had been a complete stranger only minutes before. She had a great sense of humor and loved laughing, even when the joke was on her. Like a lot of parents, Sue had a great time embarrassing her daughters at any opportunity. To the chagrin of her daughters, Sue developed a reputation for wearing a different, silly hat each day of band camp. During the years her daughters participated in the Greenwood HS Band program, Sue loved every minute of being a Box Mom to so many great teenagers.
She had a lifelong love of flowers and plants, birds, dogs, and cats. She nurtured all those things in her home at various times during her life. Until physical issues slowed her down, Sue enjoyed picnicking and hiking through state parks, snow skiing, walking along Lake Michigan beaches, tent camping with family, and most anything outdoors. To her, most outdoor activities were best enjoyed in either Spring or Autumn. For many years Sue volunteered as a naturalist at Eagle Creek Park, leading youth groups along the trails and teaching them about the plants and animals living there.
She was a generous friend, taking great joy in doing things for others whenever she could, whether it was shopping for a sick friend or taking someone a Steak n Shake milkshake. Because delivering shakes to others always happened during Steak n Shake’s “Happy Hour”, everyone knew Sue’s ulterior motive. She often bought small gifts for people if she saw something that reminded her of them.
Sometime around 1961 Sue met Ron, the boy down the street who delivered The Indianapolis Times to her home. They became friends, and many years later began dating. In January 1976, they married and enjoyed 46 years together.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Sprinkle. She is survived by her husband, Ron, daughters Aubrey Haury (husband Jonas) and Kelsey Foster (husband Dustin Goodpaster), Father-in-Law Tom Foster, and two brothers, Larry Sprinkle of ValRico, FL and Donnie Sprinkle of Greenwood, IN.
Sue will be remembered as a lover of fun and celebration. She strongly expressed that her family should avoid a traditional funeral. To honor that wish, all are welcome to an open house style party celebrating Sue’s life on December 1, 2022, at The Sanctuary on Penn, 701 North Pennsylvania Street, from 6-9 PM.
For anyone wishing to make a donation in Sue’s memory, please consider one of the following nonprofits that she supported: SOAR Initiative (an organization supporting the human-pet bond during crisis), The Julian Center (an organization supporting victims of domestic violence), or The Eagle Creek Park Foundation.
