Stephen W. Woolsey, a loving grandfather, father, son, brother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 1, 2023. Steve was born on January 10, 1947, and was the beloved son of Okie Poole and Thomas Woolsey, both of whom had preceded him in death.
Steve's greatest joy in life was his family. He married Jeanne Anne Smith in 1968, and though they eventually divorced in 1994, their love and commitment as co-parents remained unwavering. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Lori Woolsey, born in 1968, and Scotti Woolsey, born in 1980.
Steve's devotion to his son Scotti knew no bounds. Even after the divorce, he and Jeannie spent considerable time together caring for Scotti, who was born with Down syndrome, autism, and is non-verbal. Steve's selflessness and dedication to ensuring Scotti's well-being and happiness were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Steve had a vibrant spirit and loved experiencing live music and dancing with Scotti at local venues. They created cherished memories together, immersed in the beauty of music.
As a father, Steve was immensely proud of his daughter Lori's accomplishments. He celebrated her successes and supported her every step of the way. His love for his children was unwavering, and their happiness was his ultimate priority.
Steve's journey began at Northwest High School in Indianapolis, where he became known as a basketball superstar. His accomplishments on the court were even written about in the book Hoosiers, The Fabulous Basketball Life of Indiana. His talent on the court was remarkable, and his high school years were filled with memorable victories and cherished friendships.
After graduating from high school, Steve pursued higher education at Ball State University. However, his passion for ping pong led him astray, and his academic endeavors took a backseat. Despite flunking out of college, Steve never lost his sense of humor or his ability to find joy in life's simplest pleasures.
Steve's legacy also extended to his grandson, Oliver Woolsey Wong. The two spent time playing chess together and much to Steve’s dismay, Dungeon and Dragons. He cherished every moment spent with Oliver and showered him with affection and unconditional love.
On October 1, 2023, Steve peacefully passed away at his home due to natural causes while sleeping. His loved ones find solace knowing that he left this world in a state of tranquility.
Stephen W. Woolsey will be remembered for his unwavering love, dedication, and selflessness. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and joy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Down Syndrome Association or the Autism Society in memory of Steve Woolsey.
