Indianapolis

Stephen Canady Jarrett was born August 30th, 1949, in Linton, IN to Rose and Sherman Jarrett (both deceased). Steve has 2 sisters, Melody Bonnet (deceased) and Sharman Clark Jarrett. Steve graduated from Arlington High School Class of 1967. He joined the United States Navy in 1968. Steve served 4 years as a Boatman Mate. He did 2 tours in Vietnam on a war repair ship. When Steve was honorably discharged, he married his best friend, Joann Marie Richart Jarrett on October 14th, 1972. Steve and Joann have 2 sons; Joshua (deceased) and Jacob. They have 6 grandchildren, Shae, Kimberly, Macy, Sophia, Joshua, and Rebecca.

Steve worked at P.R. Mallory for 4 years until that business was sold. Steve was then hired on a precision grinder specialist at Allison Transmission. Working at Allison in Speedway, IN made it very convenient for Steve to spend the month of May at the track with his friends, Smurf, Big Al, Billy Bob, Vance, and Dickbird. Steve attended his 50th Indy 500 Race with past May sitting in his seat between turns 3 and 4. Steve was known as Bubba. He retired from Allison in 2021 with 44 years of service.

Steve spent his evenings in his garage surrounded by his treasures. He would watch his favorite black and white westerns, horror shows, silent movies, and Indy car races. Steve was very interested in history. He loved listening to the Beatles, gardening, grilling, and spending time with his big, beautiful family. He really loved his wife’s cooking. He would finish his meal and exclaim “That was damn good shit, Joann!” His son Jacob, also known as Buddy, and granddaughter Becca, known as Honey, spent many hours with him in his garage. Steve had some stories. He was a very intelligent man. He was known as the guy who was stuck in the 60’s. Those were good years, so it was a good place to be stuck. Steve curated the most beautiful and romantic gifts for his wife. They were very much in love. They had been married 50 years the day he died at the same time that they were married.

Rest in Peace, Bud! You will be missed.
