Shirley “Diane” Campbell Loretz, 81, of Indianapolis, better known as Momma D to those who were close to her, is now at peace in the hands of the Lord.
Diane was born November 18, 1939 in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Charles Fredrick and Erma Langley Stout Campbell. Diane peacefully passed away at home with her two children on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
Diane was honored to be the Morgan County Queen in 1956 and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1957 where she was part of her school choir as well as her church choir. She also attended Indiana State College.
After graduation, she began a career as a flight attendant for TWA Airlines. Diane later met and married Michael C. Loretz on February 1,1963, in San Francisco, California. The couple lived in California for 10 years before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1973. Diane seamlessly transitioned to her favorite role as a devoted wife and mother.
She then went back to work outside the home where she worked selling furniture for JCPenney until she discovered her true passion of helping to make women beautiful, inside and out, with Mary Kay Cosmetics and her career spanned more than 30 years.
Diane began her very successful career with Mary Kay cosmetics in 1987. Over the years, she led and mentored many women and was admired by so many in the business. Diane was honored twice with the Miss Go-Give Award for her willingness to help and guide all those she mentored. She crossed the stage at Mary Kay’s corporate office in Dallas, Texas many times and was recognized for her personal sales and team building skills.
As a leading Sales Director, she earned diamond rings, the famous bumble bee, as well as many other beautiful gifts. Diane also earned and drove several Grand AMs, pink Grand Prixs, a GMC Jimmy as well as three pink Cadillacs.
She was always able to put people at ease and had a unique gift of making friends and family feel special. Diane was an inspiration to all who knew her, and throughout her life epitomized faith, strength, courage and love.
She loved the Lord with all her heart and knew that up until her very last breath, she was going to meet and dance with Jesus as soon as she left this earth.
When Diane wasn’t focused on mentoring women or servicing her customers, she enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking her family’s favorite foods and snacks, especially Brads favorite- chocolate mousse, and watching her all-time favorite Twilight series and old-time movies on TMC. She really enjoyed studying the word of the Lord and doing her devotions on her front porch, almost all year long, while watching her beloved hummingbirds and birds.
Diane radiated light and love and genuinely loved her life. She cherished her family, friends, and shared the joy of each day with everyone who crossed her path and she never walked away a stranger from anyone she met and was usually the life of the party.
All who knew Diane admired her positive attitude and her smile she ALWAYS had on her face, even in her later years. Despite living in a nursing home for the last three years and being separated from her family the last nine months of her life, she remained happy, cheerful and positive.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Kathryn Loretz of Indianapolis, IN, Bradley Michael Loretz of North San Juan, CA and her two grand”dogs” Mulligan and Shine Eye Girl. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles December 30, 1997, her Mother, Erma February 3, 2002, and her former husband, Mike on August 17, 2002.
Donations in Diane’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
Due to the restrictions placed upon the state of Indiana, there will be Celebration of Life with family and friends on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Please contact Jennifer for the details with social distancing guidelines to keep everyone safe while celebrating Diane’s beautiful life.
