Sharon Murley

December 31, 1939 — December 18, 2021

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Sharon Murley, 81, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2021, with loved ones by her side.

Sharon was born December 31, 1939 in Terre Haute, IN. She graduated from Wiley High School and began working for Bowser Insurance Agencies in Terre Haute. After several moves and two children, Sharon began working as a keypunch operator for Howard Sams/ITT where she very impressively spent 35 years and culminated her long and rewarding career as Director of Accounting for ITT Educational Services national headquarters. She was one of the first female officers in the company.

Sharon will be remembered as a lively, thoughtful, and loving woman who enjoyed gardening, sewing, piano, stained glass, ceramics, bowling, traveling to Europe, and had a passion for reading. In retirement, she volunteered teaching adults how to read at Indy Reads. She also loved dogs and was a supporter of the ASPCA. Sharon spent the winters in Florida for nearly 10 years where she and her life partner, Dave, made some wonderful friendships and created many cherished memories.
Above all, Sharon dearly loved her family and was always very active and supportive in her children and grandchildren’s lives. She attended countless horse shows; soccer, football, and wrestling matches; plays; concerts; marching band competitions; ballroom dance competitions; mini-marathons; and so much more. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for her family and loved ones and she will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mervin Bays, her beloved mother, Dorothy Milanovich, and her sister, Barbara Shores.

Sharon is survived by her cherished life partner of 30 years, David Schum of Indianapolis; her 2 children, Kathy Henry of Carmel, IN, and Mike Miller (wife, Conna Miller) of Ft. Wayne, IN; her 4 grandchildren, Aaron Henry (wife, Courtland) of Huntsville, AL, Mikayla Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN, Evan Henry of Indianapolis, and Karisa Bailey (husband, Spencer) of Ft. Wayne, IN; her 4 siblings: Mary Bays Bruce (husband, Brian) of Orlando, FL, Gary Bays (wife, Kara) of Hollywood, FL, Randal Bays (wife, Susan) of Olympia, WA, and Paul Bays of Indianapolis, IN. Sharon also shared in the joy of Dave’s children and grandkids: Emily Vladoiu(children Megan and Jay) & fiance' Mario Garza, Steven Schum (children Sarah & Cynthia) and Tina Fultz, and Sarah Schum Payton & her husband Luke (children Will and Dane). She also loved her numerous cousins and nephews.
