Shallie Lee Johnson was born August 19, 1941, in Portland, Arkansas. He was the son of Frank Johnson, Sr., and Rosie Davis Johnson.
Early in life Shallie gave his life to Christ.
Shallie was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1960. He later served his country in the United States Marines. Upon his discharge, he returned to Indianapolis where he attended Indiana Business College, earning his diploma in 1964, later he opened his beauty training at Palou Beauty School. Shallie was a hairdresser for over forty years.
On September 17, 1988, Shallie was united in holy matrimony to Annie Mason Foreman, and to this union a daughter was born, Tyi Lei Johnson. She was the love of her father’s life; they went everywhere together.
Throughout his life one thing remained constant and that was his love of God. He lived the Word and he remained steadfast in his service at Eastern Star, which he later became a Deacon.
A renowned soloist and vocalist, Shallie was often a singer at wedding and special services around the city. He was a past president of the Eastern Star choir and past director of the Male Chores, along with being the director of the New Haven Male Chorus for over 15 years.
Shallie L. Johnson went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Johnson Sr. and Rosie Davis Johnson Hamiter and Wardell Hamiter; brothers Frank Johnson Jr., John Lewis Johnson, Charles Johnson, Robert Johnson, Harold Johnson Sr., and John L. Hamiter; sister Ruth Polk.
The ones he leaves to cherish his memory; our his loving wife of 32 years, Annie Veachel Johnson; one daughter Tyi Lei Johnson; brothers Theo (Jeanette), Frank and Willie Hamiter; sisters Lillie Smith and Trudell Moore (Jeff); a special friend who he called little sister, Peggy jones (Bob); a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
