Sammie D. McSwine III

December 30, 1953 — February 15, 2025

Indianapolis, IN

Sammie D. McSwine III, affectionately known as Lucky, was born December 30, 1953, the fifth child of eight, of Ida Mae (Frazier) Brown and Sammie D. McSwine I, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Lucky was humorous and known for his quick wit and ability to banter and oh, was he good at it! Two of his favorite sayings were, “and” & “bull.” He was “Chill King” and loved spending time around the grille constantly bragging about his “imaginary” queuing skills. He loved music, all types of music and it was not uncommon to find him arranging and singing, loudly, song lists from his personal laptop.

Lucky professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, which he was an active member for many years. In 1992 he joined Prayer & Ministry of the Word Center and served as Deacon under the pastorage of Melvin L. McSwine I.

Lucky received his elementary education through Elder W. Diggs #42 and graduated from George Washington High School in 1972. While attending George Washington, Lucky was active in sports, particularly football and basketball- he was an outstanding player. Later he continued his education at University of Indianapolis and sequentially graduated from Indiana Business College, receiving a double major in Accounting and Business Management. He had an aptitude with numbers and these academics would guide him toward his future ambitions.

Lucky was an honorable discharged Veteran, enlisting in both the U.S. Air Force and the Marine Corps.

Lucky was a Carpenter by trade and employed at Naval Avionics, from which he retired. Additionally, he worked at Hilton as a night Auditor, Connect to Help 211, as a Telephone Information Specialist and Department of Workforce Development, as a Large Business Auditor.

Lucky’s first marriage was to Phyllis Bryant. Out of this union Neachelle was born. Due to medical reasons, Neachelle received her wings at the tender age of three. Losing a child is traumatizing to any relationship and a separation of the marriage soon followed. Years later, Lucky met and was united in marriage to Florence L. Myers and Shai D.
