Ronald John Adkins was born September 12, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, to Margaret A. (Schellenberger) Adkins & Ralph E. Adkins. On March 22nd at Indianapolis’ Wyndmoor Senior Center, Ron passed away peacefully to be reunited with his parents; daughter, Rona (Adkins) Volkmann; life partner, Mary Ann Korves; and others at the age of 79.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Adkins) Shelly and son-in-law, Stacy Shelly; and his five grandchildren - Tiffany Pascoe, Josh Pascoe, Garret Volkmann, Jillian Shelly, and Joe Shelly.
Ron followed in his Father’s footsteps and spent his career in construction, building and repairing highways and airport runways throughout the 50 states. Ron had a plethora of hobbies and interests throughout his years, varying from breeding and showing dogs and horses, collecting baseball cards, antiques, traveling, gardening, and many more. He was also a loyal St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved watching Westerns. In fact, Ron would talk about his beloved Cardinals and Westerns, as well as, plants and politics any chance he got.
Ron was a trickster and could be found playing practical jokes on fellow friends at Wyndmoor. Ron also never found a piece of mail or pocket knife he didn’t keep, or a casino he didn’t like! His humor & record keeping proved to be an asset to the Wyndmoor Council. Ron thoroughly enjoyed his friends and the staff where he resided and looked forward to yoga & family visits.
May he rest in peace & his memories stand the test of time.
