Ron "RC" Cummings

Ron “RC” Cummings, 74, of Fairland, Indiana passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 while at home on hospice with family by his side.

He was born on Saturday, May 17, 1947 to Glen William Cummings and Joyce Agatha (Walker) Eberlein in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was one of two children.

After graduation Ron enlisted in the US Navy from July 1966 until July of 1968 and was honorably discharged. After the Navy he worked for Ma Bell for a majority of his career as an “ole phone man.” On October 28, 1998 he married Joyce in Savannah, Georgia under a gazebo by a Justice of Peace and they recently celebrated 23 years of marriage. Ron lived in Indianapolis most of his life. They moved to Fairland, Indiana, Shelby County in 2009. He loved living in the country and having his own land and space and really loved his community. He retired a few years after moving to Fairland.

Ron was a long-time member of AA. His sobriety date was October 16, 1988 and he recently celebrated 33 years of sobriety. He was a member of the Dry Dock Club of Shelbyville, Indiana. This program saved his life and for that he was forever grateful. He was also a Mason at the Shelby Masonic Lodge #28 in Shelbyville, Indiana. Ron was a man of many talents; he could fix anything and had the patience of Job. He was kind and gentle, generous. Not only with his wallet but with his time and was never judgmental. He was an avid golfer and loved reading. His faith was strong. He loved his country and was a true patriot and strongly believed in individual rights.

Ron is survived by his wife, Joyce E. “Joycee” (Hutchinson) Cummings; son, Andy Cummings and his wife Melissa; step-son, Andrew Lucas and his wife Danielle; brother, Don Cummings; daughter in law, Donna Cummings; cousin Dennis Evans who is like his brother; grandchildren, Jeff Cummings, Trisha Engel and her husband Will, Sam Cummings, Abby Cummings, Thomas Cummings; step-grandchildren, Mercedes Jeffries, Roger Jeffries; great grandchildren, Desiree, William III, Chloe, Hallie, Haven, Lincoln, Hensleigh; and his kitty cats, baby, Tom, and Jerry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen Cummings and Joyce Eberlein; son Curt Cummings; and his cats, Smokeybutt, Sissy Girl and Annie Bell (Little Orphan Annie).

Visitation will be Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel, Greenwood, Indiana.

Service will begin at 2:00 pm.

Burial will follow service at Washington Park Cemetery East, Indianapolis, Indiana.
