Robert Spencer Jones

January 19, 1940 — April 22, 2020

Robert Spencer Jones, 80, born January 19, 1940, passed away on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020 and was a resident of Carmel, Indiana. He was the son of Dr. George L. and Martha Piel Jones. Bob grew up in Wanamaker, Indiana graduating from Franklin Central H.S. where he played football and basketball for the Flashes. He attended Indiana University and the University of Evansville, where he played basketball for the Aces participating on two National Championship Teams. He was also a proud member of the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon and after college, humbly served in the US Army Reserves. He worked in the Sales Industry for many years before retirement.

He was preceded in death by his loving son, MCSD Deputy Jeffrey Spencer Jones, brother George W. Jones, sister Cynthia A. Jones, brother in-laws’ Ronald Renner, Paul Aish, Richard Champion, and William H. Church, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Joann (Church) Jones, daughter Angela Harris (Carl A., Jr.), his precious grandchildren Jada Jones and Caige Harris, brothers Dr. John D.(Jack) Jones (Linda) and James S. Jones, sisters’ Marilyn (Jones) Renner, Elizabeth (Jones) Aish, and sister-in-law Mary Beth Jones. Bob was also survived by many loving in-laws with whom he was very close: Pat (Church) and Chard Brennan, Mary Carroll (Church) and Max Jones, grand-daughter in-law Cailin Rae Harris and multiple nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of his family whom he loved very much.
Bob was a family man and very loving, caring person. He was extremely funny, always quick witted and a lifelong sports fan, especially the Indiana Hoosiers. He, his wife, along with his brother Jack and wife, were Indiana Football Season ticket holders for 50 years. One of his favorite places in this world was Pelican Lake, Minnesota, where the family spent many summers. He was always quick to help anyone, seemingly could fix anything, was very knowledgeable about cars and never had a mean thing to say about anyone. If you ever met Bob, you were sure to note, always greeted you with a handshake and a smile. He will be dearly missed by many family and lifelong friends with whom he enjoyed boating, skiing, tubing, playing basketball, tennis, golf and bobber-ball, attending the Indy 500 and traveling to various lake homes in Indiana/Minnesota/Michigan/Florida while sharing so much laughter.

In lieu of flowers, any charitable donations may be made to the Wheeler Mission of Indianapolis. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, services will be held at a later date.
