Robert Spear

Robert Earl Spear died April 10th, 2024. He was born to Robert and Hattie (Compton) Spear. Bob was a man of honor, integrity, and service. He was a proud NALC union member and had just recently received his 50 year gold card for being a member in March. He lived and breathed union and was named President Emeritus on November 4th, 2021. Bob was dedicated to the NALC union, specifically the Carmel branch #888, which he had been vice president for 20 years before becoming the president for an additional 20 plus years. In 2014, at the age of 80 years old, he decided to retire from being president of the Carmel Branch #888. He loved being a letter carrier and said often it was the best job he ever had. For those that knew Bob, they knew he had a wonderful sense of humor, a unique way with words, and he was quite the storyteller.

Bob was proud of serving his country as a Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean War. He said being in the military made him the man that he was. He served on the USS Pittsburgh CA-72 and served 4 years with 17 months being on his ship and seeing many parts of the world.

He is preceded in death by two of his children, David Spear and MarSue Slinker; his former son-in-law, Richard Slinker; his sister, Patsy (Petzi) Duncan and her husband, Lawrence. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his sons, Jamie (Lucy) Hunter and Joey (Kathie) Hartwell; his brother, Ed (Anita) Tribby; his granddaughters, Laurie (Matt) Pierce, Leslie (Nick) Davis, and special granddaughter, Gabby Hartwell; his grandsons, Eli Hartwell and Tyler Popp; plus 7 great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service with military honors at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel on Friday, April 19th, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Military honors will begin at 12:00pm. A private family burial will take place at Crown Hill Columbarium Annex in Indianapolis, IN.
