Robert Riley Boyd Jr.

July 2, 1948 — June 26, 2021

Robert Riley Boyd Jr., 72, passed away June 26, 2021,surrounded by his family after a long period of declining health. He is survived by his wife, Adrienne Boyd, his son John B. Boyd and stepson, Alexander C. Thompson (Courtney); three granddaughters Amelia, Juliana & Leah who lovingly knew him as G-Bob; His siblings Kathie Mahanna (Bill), Mike Boyd Sr. (Diana), Tom Boyd (Rita); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert R. Boyd Jr. was born at St. Frances Hospital, Beech Grove, Indiana on July 2, 1948, the son of Robert R. Boyd Sr. and Barbara Jean Haine. He was reared in Indianapolis where he lived most of his life. He was married to Joyce Moore Quillen for 14 years. Bob married Adrienne Struck Thompson in 1983 enjoying a rich loving life for 38 years. Family life was always his top priority. He was a dedicated father to his sons and most thoroughly enjoyed his grand parenting days.

Bob graduated from Arlington High School in 1966 and completed a B.S. degree in Accounting at Ball State University in 1971. He passed Uniform CPA Examination in May, 1972. He was employed by Price Waterhouse & Company as a Senior Accountant. He left this position to establish his own accounting firm Robert R. Boyd Jr. Accountancy and simultaneously worked three years as a part time Accounting Instructor at Indiana Vocation Technical College. During the years of 1980–1984 Bob was on the Warren Township School Board and served as president in 1984.

Bob had great affection for many of his clients and truly found enormous satisfaction guiding small business owners through the trials and challenges often encountered through the tenure of a growing business. Bob supported his clients until his retirement December 31, 2020. When he retired due to failing eyesight and health it was a great disappointment to leave his most satisfying career behind.

Bob’s career included many accomplishments just to name a few: He joined Adrienne in a partnership and oversaw the growth of Somersett Heights Center for Child Care Inc., which closed after 22 years. He co-founded with Adrienne Child Development Services, Inc., a company dedicated to the education of teachers in the Early Care Education field resulting in 5 published books by Delmar Publishing and many classroom management tools. LumiéreDu Corps Resort, LLC was co-founded and operated by our family for 14 years. It comprised an Aveda Spa, offices, overnight suites and facilities for outdoor weddings and receptions in a grand ballroom & tented outdoor pavilion. Bob officiated over 300 weddings. When he & Adrienne relocated to Indianapolis, he co-founded with Adrienne an Aveda Spa, Hillside Avenue Spa & Salon, LLC. He continued to operate his accounting business and co-founded Monon Construction Group with his step-son Alex.

Bob had a strong spiritual belief system. He believed in reincarnation and felt our journey on earth was to learn spiritual lessons through life experiences in order to grow his soul. He believed in a higher power and often felt guidance through spiritual entities. He attended with Adrienne an Awakening Your Light Body course in California. He completed a three-year course at The School for Enlightenment and Healing in San Diego, California. He loved to travel and a few of his most memorable trips included journeys to Egypt, Hawaii, Mexico and France. In France, he and Adrienne met with his sponsored French exchange students Delphine and Ingrid and their families and relished the opportunity to explore their hometowns. He volunteered at his beloved granddaughters IPS School #70 Centers for Inquiry until he suffered a stroke in August 2019.

We will dearly miss this wonderful, loving, generous and loyal man and are very grateful for the time we have had together with him on this earth.

Services are being held on July 8th 1:30-4:30pm at Indiana Funeral Care located at 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46250. The memorial service will begin at 3:30 PM and conclude at 4:30pm.

To honor his love and dedication to our public schools and the children they serve our family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, donations for a large piece of playground equipment. Indianapolis Public School (IPS) 70 has been trying to fundraise for the last few years to acquire a playground set for the school and the community at large. Bob would have been involved with this fundraising to achieve this goal had his health not declined and unfortunate passing.

He had great respect and faith in the Indianapolis Public School System. His three granddaughters attend IPS #70 the Center for Inquiry. Bob enthusiastically volunteered, advised and offered his resource of knowledge in the Dad's Club, PTSA, and participated in many school events. He was very happy with the quality of education School 70 provided not only his granddaughters, but all the children in attendance. As many are aware, schools always have a wish list for items just not possible to purchase within their given budget.

Please use the link provided below to electronically donate directly to the CFI 70 PTSA for this fundraiser or donations can be made in person via check (make out to “CFI 70 PTSA” memo Bob Boyd) at the memorial services.
