Robert Lee Slaughter, Jr. (73) passed away on December 29, 2020. He was the oldest child of Robert and Evelyn (Evans) Slaughter. He was born on May 31, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools #56 and Arsenal Technical High School. Upon graduation He attended Purdue University in West Layfette, IN.
Robert was baptized in Scott United Methodist Church as a child.
Robert was a member of the original student rights committee on Tech campus after the riots. Robert continued to be an activist for civil rights throughout his life. He ran for local political office in Indianapolis and worked for the city’s mayors’ programs. He was a member of Senator Eugene McCarthy’s presidential campaign. When McCarthy dropped out of the race, Robert started campaigning for Bobby Kennedy. He was actually present when Bobby Kennedy was assassinated. Robert was also at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago during the riot in 1968. Robert was awarded a national Urban Fellowship in 1978. He was assigned to the Federal Title IX program for the department of education in San Francisco, CA. Robert enjoyed writing and was an avid reader.
Robert married Geneva Felty and they had one son, Robert Jaeger Slaughter, III.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, son and grandson, Dakari Slaughter. Sister, Patricia Slaughter Dickerson (William Earl), brother, Simba Kenyatta previously Michael Slaughter, niece, Tamyka Dickerson and nephew, Maisa Kenyatta and a host of friends and family.
