Robert Andrew Leavell was born to Edmond Leavell and Mary Torain Leavell on November 19, 1927 in Hopkinsville, KY.
He received his education from Attucks Elementary and Attucks High School in Hopkinsville, KY and graduated in 1947. From there he went to Winston Salem NC Teacher College and was an Omega for 3 years. Then he went into the Air Force for 3 years as a medic and came out in 1953 as a Buck Sergeant. Robert was a star basketball player in high school and college.
Robert believed in the Lord and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Main Street Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, KY, then Robert moved to Indianapolis and became a member at St. Johns M.B. Church in 1957.
Robert worked at St. Vincent Hospital while he went to business college. He also worked several different jobs before going to the Post Office in 1956 and retired in 1984.
Robert met his wife, Lavada, September 25,1998 and got married June 26, 1999 at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church. Robert was committed to his loving wife for 20 years, 9 months, and 6 days until his death. He embraced family with love and respect as well as finding good in everyone... we could not have asked for a better man to be in our lives.
Robert's hobbies was bowling, golfing, and watching all sports on TV with his wife as well as reading the Bible with his wife. Robert served with the Juvenile Outreach Ministries, he was a Sunday School teacher and pew partner. Robert's ministry work extended into his community where he participated with the Code Compliance Committee, Oakhill Civic Association, and friends of Douglas Advisory Board as well as a member of the American Legion.
God called Robert home to be with His heavenly Father on April 1, 2020. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings and a son Robert A. Leavell Jr. He leaves to cherish his precious and loving memories to his devoted wife and best friend Lavada Leavell, sons Robert Aaron Millspaugh, Wayne Thrailkill, daughters Faith Johnson (Bobby), Desire’ Thrailkill and (5) grandchildren, (7) great grandchildren, (8) great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church family and friends, a host of family and friends.
