Robert D. (Bob) Kindred of Indianapolis, 78, passed away on July 3, 2024, after a 24-year battle with cancer. Bob was born August 21, 1945, in Bedford, IN, to Howard and Marie Kindred. A 1964 graduate of Bedford High School, Bob started his career with Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis in May 1964 and loyally dedicated his life to Ford for 45 years in the Automotive Industry before retiring. While still at Ford, Bob began working with the Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department in September 1975 where he built the department into the modern, efficient and professional service agency it is today. Bob was one of the first certified paramedics for Buck Creek and ended his career with the department as Fire Chief in late 1989. Bob also served in the US Air Force as a USAF Air Police Officer. Bob achieved an Honorable Discharge. He was active with the American Legion Post #495, Indianapolis, and a member of the Eastside Church of Christ. Later in his retirement years, Bob was well known for his completely restored and rebuilt 1958 MG car. Attendees of car shows throughout the Midwest always looked for Bob's candy apple red MG. Bob was proud of the MG he rebuilt which won literally hundreds of trophies, ribbons, plaques and "Best in Show" awards. He spent countless hours locating original parts, rebuilding, maintaining and showing the car of his dreams. Bob loved his family very much and was most proud of his son, Jonathan Kindred. He never missed an opportunity to tell people about Jonathan and his family and the Excavating business that Jonathan and Ashley built one piece of equipment at a time into a highly successful business today. When not working on his MG's, Bob could be found at the shop helping Jonathan and was always ready for a road trip to pick up new equipment, trucks and supplies to help with the business. Bob is survived by his son, Jonathan Kindred (Ashley, wife) and his beloved grandson, Ruger, all of New Palestine. Bob also leaves many dear family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, it was Bob's wish that any donations be made to American Legion Post #495.
