Robert James Benson Jr.

Robert James Benson Jr. passed away on May 31, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born as the only child of Robert J. Benson Sr. & Elizabeth (Mooney) Benson in Fulton County Georgia on March 19, 1958.

Robert was baptized on August 3, 1958 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Atlanta Georgia. He was a member of the Dunwoody High School Class of 1976. After High School Robert joined the United States Navy, and he served until he was honorably discharged in March 1992. After the Navy Robert chose to settle in Indianapolis. Robert was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Choir.

The last few years of Roberts life were spent devoted to his health and his heart. Shortly before he passed Robert received a Left Ventricular Assist Device to improve his heart.
Robert was proceeded in death by his father, Robert J. Benson Sr., his step-father Delbert Johnson and his mother Elizabeth (Mooney, Benson) Johnson. He is survived by his adopted family in Indianapolis, William & Judy Gray, Ben & Vicki Clem, his cat Lizzy, and his St. Luke’s United Methodist Family.

A memorial service will be held in the Robertson Chapel at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260 on Tuesday June 15. Visitation will be at 5pm with funeral services at 7 pm
