Jack’s Obituary
Born April 26, 1957, Robert Jack Hunter, or “Jack” as he was called, always had a quick wit and sharp mind. His ongoing jokes and levity, especially with his father, helped bring a playful mood to any situation.
He had two sons: Elliot Hunter and Evan Hunter. Evan preceded him in death in 1997.
He was married to Suzanne Pettitt Hunter and later divorced.
His father and mother were lifelong Hoosiers but often lived in South Florida. His mother, Alice “Jackie” Purpura survives him in Avon, Indiana. His father, a native to Indianapolis, and professional race car driver, whom Jack loved, passed in 2019. Jack cared for his father in his later years at their Pershing home. Jack loved his grandparents, Nellie and Robert Elmer Hunter. Members of the West Morris Street Free Methodist Church for generations, Jack attended Sunday school as a youngster and wrote a testimonial before his passing.
Jack lived and worked in Florida and Indiana. His focus, like his father, was a love of cars and tinkering.
Jack had a big, loving family that celebrated the Indy 500 and Memorial Day Weekend. Siblings:
Linda Pettitt and Wanda Hoffman (Mel);
Great Aunt Esther Fox; nephews: Kaden, Damien, Yaunce, Daks, Xavier, Rune, Soren, Thane, Aslan;
Nieces: Portia, Neeli, Aunika, Bethany, Chelsea, Linde, Eva, Isla, Lyrik, Ivy, and Hedda.
He frequented Slammin Sammies Tavern, where he had many friends.
Jack passed peacefully on 1/28/24, after a battle with cancer.
His sister, Wanda was his loving caregiver till the end.
