Mr. Robert Lee Hughes, 74, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, at Greenwood Healthcare in Greenwood, IN. He was born on January 15, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Curtis Hughes and Doris (Howard) Hughes. After completing his education, Robert served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, he worked for 25 years for National Star and Chemical, as well as the Post Rd. bus driver for IndyGo.
Robert was a hard-working man, who loved being a craftsman and was able to build many items for his and his family’s homes. He also enjoyed fishing, skating, drinking, the time he shared with his friends and family, and was known for always dressing sharp for any occasion.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Verlita Hughes; son, Eric Hughes; brother, Tommy Hughes; granddaughters, Tariva (Jonathan Dabner) Mitchell, and Teandra Banks; grandson, Dalton Hughes; great-grandchildren, Amir, Bralen, Jahiya, and Montana; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Curtis Hughes and Doris Hughes, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Hughes.
Services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250.
