Robert Edwin Patterson

Robert Edwin Patterson was born on February 5, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to T. R. (Thomas Robert) Patterson and Florence (Flo) Gossett Patterson. He died on January 5, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospice Hospital in Indianapolis at the age of 81. Bob grew up in Memphis, attending Christian Brothers High School, Class of 1956, and he maintained close contact with his mates. He also graduated from Christian Brothers College (now University) in Memphis.

Bob worked in the insurance industry. In 1979 Bob moved to Indianapolis, and in addition to work he continued his lifelong pursuit of swimming. Bob thoroughly enjoyed the sport, the friends he made through it, and the work of teaching others to become better swimmers. Relationships with others were important to Bob. He seldom met a stranger, and those in Bob's close circle knew that he valued them. At the end of his days, God provided dear friends to offer him love and support during his time of palliative care, when family travel was curtailed by the pandemic.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bonnie Ayers Patterson. He is survived by his three children, Robb, Steve, and Teresa; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many cousins.

A memorial service will be held for Bob on Friday, January 15, at 12:30 pm at Faith Church, 9125 North College Avenue, Indianapolis. Burial will be at the Carmel Cemetery.
