Robert A Boehmer, 90, former GM Executive, passed away on November 25, 2021.
Services for Robert A. Boehmer will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46240 on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral at the church from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mr. Boehmer was a former Plant Manager at General Motors plants in Speedway and Maywood. He retired after 40 years of service.
He was active in civic affairs in the community, serving a president of Catholic Social Services Board of Directors, and as a member of the Boards of Junior Achievement, Catholic Charities, I-STAR, and the Wayne Township Business-Education
Counsel. He supported these and other not-for-profit organizations in such activities as teaching Project Business and Applied Economics for JA, United Way campaigns at GM, the National Kidney Foundation, Boy Scout Explorers career counseling, Jobs For The Future and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He also tutored students at the St. Philip Neri grade school.
Mr. Boehmer was an active member of St. Pius X Parish serving in a number of different ministries. He was a 43-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and was president of the Indianapolis Chapter, along with holding numerous other offices. In addition to being a member of the Circle City Sound chorus, he also sang with two medal winning quarters.
He served in the Army during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Boehmer was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and of the University of Detroit where he earned two post graduate degrees.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Ruth (Andre) Boehmer, and son Paul R. Boehmer. He is survived by his brother Mark, seven children: Christopher, Mark (Sara), Anne (Mike) Hunneman, Theresa Fairchild, John (Martha), Eric (Karissa) and Sarah. He is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren: Evan, Adam, Jake, Emily, Elliot, Constance, Elizabeth, Jessica; and seven great grandchildren: Elijah, Rowan, Jack, Della, Katara, Ellie, Dominic.
