On May 16, 2024 Rick Meyer, 72, peacefully went to be with Jesus surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 20, 1951 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Myron and Rosalee Meyer. Rick graduated from Southside High School, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He then went on to Ball State University. It was there that he met his future wife, Deborah Meyer. It was love at first sight. They were married their senior year in 1972 and both graduated the following spring.
Rick worked at the Elkhart Truth, where he loved being a sportswriter. He also became a Sports Editor and covered city government. Rick then worked at Faegre Baker Daniels, where he worked as a marketing writer.
Family was most important to Rick. He coached all his kids throughout the years, spending a lot of his time at Cleveland Little League. Rick was a very loving husband, father, Papa, and friend. He was devout in his faith and enjoyed serving others in the Grace Care Center and City Relief. Rick was known for handing out care packages to the homeless in downtown Indianapolis.
Rick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deborah; his children, Kirsten (Marcus) Casteel, Lindsey (Matt) Putman, Travis (Taryn) Meyer; grandchildren, Devonta (Emilye), Javonta, Brennan, Devon, Madelyn, Maxwell, Owen, Keagan, Arabella, and Emmett; a great grandson, Royan; his sister, Debbie (Rick) Mack; and many other family members and friends.
