Richard D. (Rick) Rector of Carmel, peacefully passed away on May 18, 2023, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 69. A 1971 graduate of Anderson High School, Rick was a proud member of the Golf Team. He later graduated from Indiana State University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. In pursuit of his passion for the game, Rick worked as a Golf Pro at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. Returning to Indiana to start a family, Rick pursued various careers, most recently he worked as a Courier / Driver for Mill Supplies Inc.
In addition to golf, Rick was passionate about spending time with friends at Lake Tippecanoe, at the Carmel American Legion #155 where he was a 29 year member of the Sons of the American Legion, or at the Carmel VFW #10003. He was known among family and friends for his uncanny recall of everyone's birthdays off the top of his head. Only recently he had started writing these down. As it turned out, the list he'd kept in his head for so many years actually totalled over 200 names, dates, and ages.
Born to Rebecca and Richard Rector (September 13, 1953) both parents preceded Rick in death. He is survived by daughter, Courtney Rector (Cicero, Indiana), sister, Beth Meyer (Carmel, Indiana), one aunt, Dorothy Webb (Anderson, Indiana) and many cousins.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, June 24th from 3:00p to 5:00p at the Carmel American Legion Post 155 (located at 852 W Main St). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Post 155.
