Richard (Rick) A. Fairweather, age 56, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis after a year-and-a-half long battle with cancer.
Rick was born on October 21, 1964, in Garden Grove, California. He spent most of his childhood until he graduated high school in Congo, Africa with his parents, John and Margie, who served as missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), and his older brother, Steven. Rick attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, in hopes to pursue a life of mission aviation work, but his life changed course upon finding that he was colorblind, thus prohibiting him from pursuing this career path. His passion for serving and loving others continued on despite his dream of mission work coming to a close. He completed his education at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and then returned to Chicago to live and work. He was married on December 2, 1989, to Julie K. (Louks) Fairweather in Muncie, Indiana. Rick and Julie were married for 30 years and lived in the greater Indianapolis area with their four children until his passing. Rick enjoyed a very successful career in information systems & technology working at Cisco Systems for 23 years in a variety of executive roles, then transitioned to Veritas Technologies followed by Commvault, where he continued to hold executive positions tasked with client relationships & partnerships.
In his free time, Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; golfing at Crooked Stick Golf Club; racing Porsches; and giving back to the community through board memberships with Heritage Christian School, Crooked Stick Golf Club, Mesh Systems, and the Evans Scholar Foundation. His love for servitude and giving back was only matched by his love of coffee and for testing out every ice cream shop he could find.
Rick is survived by his parents, John and Margie Fairweather; brother, Steven Fairweather (Christine); wife, Julie; four children, Jackson, Mitchell, Grace, and Margaret; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 11, at College Park Church, 2606 W. 96th St., Indianapolis, IN 46268, with open visitation from 9-11AM followed by the service from 11-12PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rick’s name to the Evans Scholar Foundation (wgaesf.org/you-make-the-difference), Heritage Christian School (heritagechristian.net), or Mission Aviation Fellowship (maf.org).
