Richard Lee King

May 5, 1932 — May 14, 2020

RICHARD LEE KING was born May 5, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Claude and Sara Kathryn (Baker) King. As a child and teenager, he grew up with his family on the south side in University Heights near what is now known as University of Indianapolis. Richard passed away at the age of 88 years old on May 14,2020.
On Oct.17,1955 in Youngstown OH, Richard married the love of his life, Jean Ellen Chandler, who passed away Nov. 2005. Richard had three children, Christopher Allen King, Debra Jean Chavez (Michael), and a son who preceded him in death, John Richard King (Julie).
Richard and Jean had eight grandchildren, Mark, Christopher, Shannon, Sean, Sarah, Leah, Jennifer, and Christine plus several great grandchildren.
Richard had an older brother Jack B. King who preceded him in death (2004) and two sisters, Dorothy Marie Grubb and Francis Virginia Mauck.
In the early 50’s, Richard worked on the Grand Coulee Dam in Oregon. While there he was drafted in the Army and served in the Korean war with the 7th Inf. Division. After his time in Korea, he lived in Youngstown OH and Gary IN where he worked at the Steel Mills. Richard and Jean moved back to Indianapolis IN in the 60’s and worked at Robert’s Dairy as a milkman. At that time, they lived on the North side near the State Fairgrounds. When Richard would come home for lunch the neighborhood children would see him and run to the milk truck and he would pass out ice cream bars and popsicles. Late 60’s early 70’s, Richard got a job Fred Beck’s as a delivery driver. In the 70’s he became self-employed as a painter. He did that until he retired in the mid 90’s.
In 1961, Richard was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Glendale Kingdom Hall.
Richard loved talking to people and telling stories. He was also an animal lover. There were always animals in the home. He also enjoyed fishing. It was an all-day adventure when the family went.
Richard always loved having his grandchildren around. He was a good cook and his grandchildren loved spending the night and waking up to his delicious breakfast.
The family looks forward in seeing the fulfillment of Rev.21; 3,4, “our tears of sorrow will become tears of joy” when we welcome back Richard and all our dead loved ones in the resurrection.
