Rebecca "Becky" Jo Alexander, 69, originally from North Salem, Indiana and most recently residing in Seymour, took her last step and breath on this earth and the next step into heaven, on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Becky was born on November 9, 1951 to the late Edmond and Maxine Alexander. Becky is survived by her brother Tom Alexander and his wife Donna, in North Salem, IN, her sister Christina Alexander residing in Columbus, IN and her brother Eric Alexander and his wife Becky, residing in Deltona, FL, in addition to several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends who loved her dearly. Becky was preceded in death by her father, Edmond Alexander, her mother, Maxine Alexander and her sister, Cynthia Kay Alexander.
Becky graduated from North Putnam High School in 1970 with honors, winning many scholastic awards. She received her bachelor degrees in sociology and theology from Indiana Central College (now University of Indianapolis) and received her Master's in Counseling from the Christian Theological Seminary. She devoted her life to helping others through their mental and emotional crisis as a mental health counselor, beginning her career working with mentally and physically challenged adults for the facility known as New Hope, Indianapolis. Her additional employers were Koala, Indianapolis and Columbus Behavioral Health, Centerstone and Quinco in Columbus and Seymour. Most recently she was working for Ascension St. Vincent Jennings Senior Renewal Center, serving North Vernon, Salem and Bedford. She also worked with crisis for Christopher & Associates Counseling Center at Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour.
Becky was well known for her loving, compassionate understanding and guidance, helping her patients through traumatic experiences, sudden illnesses and losses and past and current issues affecting their lives, as well as guiding her own family through trying times.The lives that Becky touched, and helped heal, are too numerous to count. She was an avid animal lover and rescued several dogs throughout her life, who were her constant companions. She travelled to Africa with a group from her profession, assisting in counseling people in Liberia. She loved music, played guitar and decided to learn, one of the hardest instruments to play, the violin, in her late forties. She was a devoted member of the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church in Indianapolis and Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in Nashville, IN.
Due to continued restrictions surrounding us at this time, a graveside service for a maximum of 25 people will be held at Mt. Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery located at 734 N. Morgantown Road, Greenwood, IN 46142, on Friday, January 15th at 2:30 pm. If more than 25 show up, they will be staged appropriately from the gravesite or wait in their cars.
Prior to the graveside service an invitation-only service will be held from 11 am to 1 pm at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church in Indianapolis on Friday, December 15, 2021. The maximum to attend the church service is 50. If more show up, they will need to wait outside or in their cars. Those invitations will be sent out by the church to their members. Becky's family intends to have a gathering later in the year to honor and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers or donations, we will set up a GoFundMe account to assist with final arrangements which will be shared on social media.
