Rebecca Ann Carty

June 27, 1955 - August 3, 2022

Rebecca “Becky” Ann Carty of Indianapolis passed away unexpectedly on August 3, 2022, at the age of 67. Becky was born on June 27, 1955, in Brazil, Indiana to Lillie Mae Lawson and Kelly David Lawson Sr. as the second youngest of twelve children.

Becky is survived by her daughter, Layla McElroy, son-in-law, Andy along with the four great loves of her life, her grandchildren: Aryn (Addison), Ella, Ava and Drew; and 8 siblings, Jewell Smith, Janie Reynolds, Jody Douglas, Martha Plunkett, Louis Lawson, James Lawson, Charlie Lawson, and Curtis Lawson. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Roger Dale Lawson, Kelly David Lawson Jr, Denver Lawson and Mary Kent. She was lovingly known as mom, grandma and also “Aunt Becky” to her numerous nieces and nephews. There was nothing Becky loved more than spending time with family. From basketball games, swim meets to concerts-- she especially loved cheering on her grandchildren no matter the event.

Becky enjoyed the simple things in life- listening to live music, tending to a garden, and cooking heirloom family recipes with her grandchildren. As a long-time resident of Indianapolis, Becky was a Hoosier through and through who loved rooting for her Colts and Pacers, visiting the Covered Bridge Festival, and long walks around the Broad Ripple and Downtown Mass Avenue neighborhoods with her dog, Nina. She was the biggest fan of fellow Indiana natives, Larry Bird and David Letterman. Becky especially loved visiting New York City for the hustle and bustle and never missed the opportunity to see The Phantom of the Opera.

Becky will be sorely missed, most of all for her unmatched compassion, lively laugh, and zest for life. The outpouring of love and support received from friends and family has brought great comfort to those who loved her most. Per Becky’s wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.

In keeping with Becky’s generous spirit, the family welcomes donations to Gleaners Food Bank and Indianapolis Urban League.
