Randy Jay Layne

Randy “Jay” Layne, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 after succumbing to complications of a stroke in 2019. He was surrounded by his loving sisters. Jay was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on September 28, 1954, to the late James Layne and Dolores (Hart) Gehringer.

Jay is survived by his daughters, Tabitha (Rusty) Holt, Sarah (Chris) Mazur, and Rachel (Ryan) Brown; former wife Rica Layne; step-father Philip “Sonny” Gehringer; sisters, Diana Mahan and Deborah Drummond; grandchildren Ella, Carter, Weston, Wesley and Coen who will miss their Opa greatly; nephews Josh (Bonnie) Drummond, Seth (Tammi) Drummond, Matthew (Mackenzie) Mahan and Noah Mahan as well as many other loving relatives.

Jay enjoyed traveling and loved the years he spent abroad. He loved basketball as well as following the Colts. His biggest love was spending time with his family, especially taking his grandchildren and nephews out to movies and favorite restaurants. Jay regularly looked forward to family cookouts and get-togethers. We will miss his generosity, laughter and dad-jokes. Jay will be remembered for the great compassion he showed towards anyone who was sick, spending countless hours with family members and friends.

We will miss you Dad, Brother, Opa, Uncle and friend.
