Phyllis Piety

Phyllis J. Piety (Joie DeCenzo) passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 in Indianapolis. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by husband Jerry, October 2023, and sister Patricia.

Joie was known by all as a gracious, kind, and caring woman all through her life. Even in the depths of extreme dementia at the end nurses and aides would comment on her ability to extend kind words and smiles to anyone that was in her presence. Joie was born to Joe and Lillian DeCenzo September 27, 1939. She enthusiastically embraced life with a love of dancing, flowers, camping, and hosting friends and family at wonderful gatherings and celebrations. She was always on the hunt for special gifts she could surprise family members with.

Joie held a special place in her heart for Tech High School club sisters, classmates, and organizing reunions. She was a popular alumnus as a former varsity cheerleader, homecoming queen, and club sister. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1957. Always stylish, she was "the belle of the ball".

Joie is survived by sons Jeff (Joy), Jay (Tammy), and Darin (Ann); grandchildren, Brandon (Laura), Matt (Samantha), Ryan (Karen), Ross, Justin, Kyle; great-grandchildren, Ava, Ruby, Stella, Conrad, Isla, Kaleo.

A private family graveside gathering will be held at a later date.
