Paul N. Doss passed peacefully surrounded by his family on June 12, 2020, at age 58.
He was born in Indianapolis on July 21, 1961, and grew up in Kokomo, IN. He spent the last 25 years with his family in Carmel, IN.
Throughout his life Paul enjoyed the simple pleasures – a steak on the grill, a bonfire at dusk, petting a good dog, watching a storm roll in, listening to live music and driving his Mustang GT convertible.
He was fortunate on many counts, starting with being born into a loving, stable family as the second child of Dr. Jerome and Dorothy Doss.
He met Lisa Rehorst, who became his wife of 33 years, while in college at Indiana University. He studied computer science, but his real passion was the SCUBA diving club, where he was a dive master. Paul loved Bloomington and boating and skiing on Lake Monroe, but was known as a better passenger than captain.
In another stroke of luck, Paul landed a job where he could get paid to vacation. He worked 28 years with RCI and three years with Bluegreen Vacations. He and his family loved checking out new sites, but the favorite was Hilton Head Island, with trips to the Salty Dog Café.
Paul was humble about his own life but always proud of the achievements of friends and family, especially his three children: Tori, John and David Doss. He was an avid soccer and lacrosse dad. He inherited a love of grilling and a quirky sense of humor from his own father.
Paul is now reunited with his father and grandparents. He will be remembered by his wife, Lisa Doss of Carmel, IN; their children, Tori, John and David Doss; his sister, Jerri Ann Doss Helms and husband Kerry Helms, of Belmont, NC; his mother, Dorothy Doss of Charlotte, NC; his sister-in law, Kathleen Rehorst of Las Vegas, NV; and his brother-in-law Dave Rehorst and wife Sue Rehorst, of Dayton, OH.
Paul always said he wanted to be celebrated with an Irish wake. A gathering to honor his life will be announced when there are fewer social restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Gleaner’s Food Bank in Indianapolis, IN, or the Hamilton County Humane Society.
